• Turn on a site-wide banner explaining shipping delays, with a link to a live status page.
• Pause delivery-date promises for affected ZIP codes, so checkout doesn't show dates you can't keep.
• Hold or reroute fulfillment if your stock sits in a Florida warehouse, shifting orders to another location where you have one.
• Pause scheduled emails and ads to affected areas. Promotional emails during an evacuation do lasting damage to trust.
• Offer subscription skips so customers in the storm's path aren't charged for boxes they can't receive.
• Extend return windows for orders delayed or damaged in transit.

Which marine and outdoor products are tax-free in Florida?

Since August 1, 2025, Florida has permanently exempted many safety and preparedness items that used to be tax-free only during short holidays, including life jackets, sunscreen, insect repellent, common household batteries, bicycle helmets and portable generators. For Cape Coral's marine and outdoor brands, several best sellers now need to be set as tax-exempt in Shopify.

Each exemption has its own definitions and limits, so confirm product classifications with your accountant before switching them off. Florida also now runs a permanent back-to-school sales tax holiday every August, and its 2026 hunting, fishing and camping holiday runs until December 31, 2026, exempting rods and reels priced at $75 or less, or $150 or less as a set, along with other listed gear.

How does Florida sales tax work on a Cape Coral order?

Florida charges 6% statewide plus a county discretionary surtax, which in Lee County brings most orders to 6.5%. The surtax only applies to the first $5,000 of a single item's price, which matters for high-value marine gear such as electronics and outboard accessories.

Out-of-state brands collect Florida tax once their taxable remote sales into the state pass $100,000. Exempt sales don't count toward that total.
