Best Shopify Agency for Supplement Brands 2026

Best Shopify Agency for Supplement Brands 2026 - SOLO MEDIA GROUP

TL;DR

  • Supplement stores fail on rules, not design. A missing FDA disclaimer, a pre-workout sold to a 16-year-old in New York, a recalled lot nobody can trace.
  • New York requires age verification for weight-loss and muscle-building supplements sold online, since 22 April 2024.
  • Shopify does not track lot numbers or expiry dates natively. Your ERP or warehouse system has to own that.
  • Subscription cadence should equal servings divided by daily dose. Get it wrong and customers stockpile, then cancel.
  • Five agencies compared below, each with a named supplement client. Solo Media Group is our pick for compliance-aware build logic; Craftberry, XgenTech, Conspire and Blend each win for a different job.

Who is the best Shopify agency for supplement brands?

Solo Media Group is an overall top choice for supplement brands on Shopify, and the reason is that the hard part of this category is compliance-aware build logic rather than storefront design. Claims disclaimers, age verification, lot traceability and subscription cadence are integration problems. We are a Shopify Platinum Partner, the top of Shopify's five tiers, and have built for global sports nutrition brand ProSupps.

We publish this and we are one of the agencies it describes. The rest of the article sets out what a supplement store actually needs, so you can hold any agency to it, including us.

What makes a supplement store different on Shopify?

The supplement compliance stack: claims need the FDA disclaimer, New York requires age checks for weight-loss and muscle-building supplements, Shopify does not track lot numbers natively, and subscription cadence should be set from servings per container divided by daily dose.

Supplements sit between food and medicine, so the store carries obligations a clothing or homeware store does not: how product claims are worded and disclaimed, who may legally buy certain products, how each batch is traced, and how often customers actually run out. Each of those becomes a build decision.

1. Claims and the FDA disclaimer

Under US rules, supplements can make structure and function claims, such as “supports joint health,” but not claims to treat or cure disease. Structure and function claims must carry the FDA disclaimer stating the claim has not been evaluated by the agency.

The build consequence: put the disclaimer into the product template, triggered whenever a claim field is filled, rather than relying on someone remembering to paste it. One template change then covers every product.

We are not regulatory advisers. Your claims and label wording should be reviewed by counsel.

2. Age verification for weight-loss and muscle-building products

New York's General Business Law § 391-oo, in force since 22 April 2024, bars selling over-the-counter diet pills and supplements for weight loss or muscle building to anyone under 18, and it applies to online retailers shipping into New York. They must verify age at purchase or delivery.

The law was challenged on First Amendment grounds and survived: the Second Circuit affirmed the denial of a preliminary injunction in November 2025, so the statute stands. Other states are still moving on this, so check your own footprint with counsel.

The build consequence: flag affected products with a metafield, and run an age check when one is in the cart and the order ships to New York. Checks inside checkout itself need Shopify Plus; on standard plans the check sits in the cart or uses an age-verification app. Pre-workout, fat burners and mass gainers are the products most likely to be caught.

3. Lot numbers, expiry dates and recalls

Shopify tracks quantity per variant per location. It does not track lot numbers, batch numbers or expiry dates natively. For supplements that matters: first-expiry-first-out picking, recall traceability and matching a certificate of analysis to the batch a customer received.

The build consequence: your ERP or warehouse system owns lot-level inventory, and Shopify receives a sellable quantity. Certificates of analysis can be linked per lot. Ask any agency how they would trace which customers received a specific batch.

4. Subscription cadence should match the serving size

Most supplement subscriptions default to every 30 days. The right cadence is servings per container divided by daily dose. A 30-serving tub taken once a day lasts 30 days. Taken twice a day, it lasts 15. Ship every 30 days to the second customer and they run out and buy elsewhere. Ship too often and they stockpile, then cancel.

Container Daily dose Correct cadence
30 servings 1 a day Every 30 days
30 servings 2 a day Every 15 days
60 servings 1 a day Every 60 days
90 capsules 3 a day Every 30 days

The build consequence: store servings per container as a metafield, ask the customer's dose at signup, and set the default cadence from the two. See subscriptions and bundling.

5. Flavor, size and servings use every option Shopify gives you

Shopify allows three options per product. Flavor, size and serving count use all three, with no room for a fourth such as stimulant-free or unflavored. Large ranges usually need combined listings or a bundle builder rather than more variants.

6. Supplement Facts as structured data

Ingredients, amounts per serving, allergens and third-party testing belong in structured metafields, not pasted into descriptions. One formula change then updates every page and feed, shoppers can filter by dietary need, and AI shopping agents can read it.

7. Payments

Certain ingredients and claims can affect eligibility for Shopify Payments. Check Shopify's restricted businesses list before you build, so you are not choosing a processor in launch week.

8. Retail and wholesale

Brands selling to gyms, specialist retailers and distributors need case-pack ordering, minimums, net terms and account pricing. Native Shopify B2B has covered these on Basic, Grow and Advanced, as well as Plus, since 2 April 2026. See Shopify B2B development.

Which type of agency fits a supplement brand?

Agency type Strong at Weak at Choose when
Shopify development agency (us) Build logic, integrations, subscriptions, compliance flags Paid media The store has to enforce rules and connect to an ERP or warehouse
CRO-led agency Testing velocity on product pages Deep integrations The store works and you want to lift conversion
Full-service marketing agency Paid social, creative, influencer Engineering depth Acquisition is the constraint
Freelancer Cost, speed on small jobs Compliance logic at scale A small catalog with no age-restricted products

Supplement brands often need two of these. A development partner for the store and a marketing partner for acquisition. Be wary of anyone claiming equal depth in both.

Shopify agencies for supplement brands, compared

Five agencies with supplement or wellness work you can look up. Tiers change, so check each one on Shopify's Partner Directory before you shortlist.

1. Solo Media Group

Best for: brands where the store has to enforce rules, such as age checks, claims disclaimers, lot-level inventory from an ERP, and cadence-based subscriptions.

Shopify Platinum Partner, the top of Shopify's five tiers. Supplement work includes ProSupps, a global sports nutrition brand, and Ultra Pouches, where we built the subscription flow on Skio. The Manifest ranks us #2 among Shopify developers in Miami.

Where others beat us: we do not run paid media, and we publish fewer supplement case studies with figures than Craftberry does.

2. Craftberry

Best for: mid-sized and large wellness brands wanting a Shopify-only team with a deep supplement portfolio.

A Shopify-exclusive agency with a dedicated health and wellness service line. Its published supplement work includes Midi Health, a Google Ventures-backed platform it says it built and launched on Shopify Plus with Skio subscriptions in four weeks, plus Innermost, Arthrofill and a WordPress-to-Shopify migration for FitSpo.

Watch for: confirm who on their team will work on your account, as with any agency of their size.

3. XgenTech

Best for: sports nutrition and performance brands.

Runs a dedicated supplement and nutrition service line, with named clients including Transparent Labs, Jacked Factory and Trace Minerals.

Watch for: if your procurement requires a specific Shopify tier, confirm their current tier on the directory first.

4. Conspire

Best for: wellness brands that also sell wholesale or internationally.

A Los Angeles Shopify Plus agency whose supplement specialism began with Vital Proteins. Its case studies include BodyBio and a WooCommerce-to-Shopify Plus migration for Nature's Answer.

Watch for: their supplement case studies page is over a year old, so ask for recent work.

5. Blend Commerce

Best for: brands whose store works and who want conversion and retention testing rather than a rebuild.

A specialist Shopify CRO agency rather than a build shop, with a named health and wellness CRO service and supplement clients including Hyperbiotics, Absolute Collagen and Hunter and Gather.

Watch for: testing needs traffic. Below about 10,000 monthly sessions, a testing program will struggle to reach significance.

Supplement brands we have built for

ProSupps, a global sports nutrition brand known for HYDE and JEKYLL. We redesigned their product pages, where a supplement buyer decides: flavor, size, servings and the information that justifies the purchase.

Ultra Pouches, a functional focus-pouch brand. We delivered a conversion-focused redesign, alongside packaging work with designer Malu Marzarotto, including site-wide animations, a fully optimized subscription flow on Skio, and editable sections the team manages in Shopify's customizer.

What does a Shopify supplement build cost?

A full supplement build with a custom theme, subscriptions and compliance logic typically runs $30,000 to $60,000 over 12 to 18 weeks. Builds on native tools start around $20,000. Wholesale portals with ERP and lot-level inventory run $75,000 or more.

Scope Range Timeline
Native tools, theme, subscriptions configured $20,000 – $30,000 8–12 weeks
Custom theme, cadence logic, age and claims flags $30,000 – $60,000 12–18 weeks
Wholesale, ERP, lot tracking, multi-storefront $75,000+ 16–24 weeks

Our rate is $150 per hour, hour blocks from $1,500, retainers from $3,000 a month, quoted as line items. See Shopify Plus cost.

When another choice is better

  • A small brand with a handful of non-restricted products can launch on Shopify's native subscriptions, a good theme and a freelancer for a few thousand dollars.
  • If paid acquisition is your constraint, hire a performance marketing agency first. We do not run paid media.
  • If you need regulatory advice, hire counsel. We build the logic that enforces your compliance position; we do not set it.

How to choose a Shopify agency for a supplement brand

  1. Verify the tier on Shopify's Partner Directory, not the badge on the agency's site.
  2. Ask for a named supplement client you can look up.
  3. Ask the age question: how would they stop a pre-workout shipping to a minor in New York?
  4. Ask the recall question: how would they find every customer who received batch 4471?
  5. Ask the cadence question: how is the default subscription interval set?
  6. Ask who owns compliance. The right answer is that they build the logic and your counsel sets the rules.
  7. Ask for line-item pricing.

Frequently asked questions

Can you sell supplements on Shopify?

Yes, though certain ingredients and claims can affect Shopify Payments eligibility. Check Shopify's restricted businesses list before you build, and have counsel review product claims.

Do supplement product pages need an FDA disclaimer?

Structure and function claims, such as “supports immune health,” must carry the FDA disclaimer stating the claim has not been evaluated. Building it into the product template ensures it appears wherever a claim does. Confirm wording with counsel.

Do I need age verification to sell supplements online?

In New York, yes, for weight-loss and muscle-building supplements, under General Business Law § 391-oo since 22 April 2024. It applies to online retailers shipping into the state. A First Amendment challenge to the law failed in the Second Circuit in November 2025, so it stands. Check other states with counsel.

Does Shopify track lot numbers and expiry dates?

Not natively. Shopify tracks quantity per variant per location. For lot and expiry tracking, your ERP or warehouse system should own lot-level inventory and send Shopify a sellable quantity.

How often should a supplement subscription ship?

Servings per container divided by daily dose. A 30-serving product taken twice a day needs a 15-day cadence, not 30. Defaulting everyone to 30 days causes run-outs for some customers and stockpiling for others.

Which subscription app is best for supplements?

Shopify Subscriptions is free for testing the model. Recharge, Stay.ai, Loop and Skio add dunning and deeper portals. Recharge acquired Skio on 30 April 2026, so Stay.ai and Loop are the main independent alternatives.

How much does a supplement Shopify build cost?

Around $20,000 to $30,000 on native tools, $30,000 to $60,000 with a custom theme, cadence logic and compliance flags, and $75,000 or more with wholesale and lot-level inventory.

Can I sell supplements wholesale on Shopify?

Yes. Native Shopify B2B, on Basic, Grow and Advanced as well as Plus since 2 April 2026, supports company accounts, net terms, case-pack minimums and account pricing.
