Shopify B2B in 2026: What Moved Down-Plan and What Still Needs Plus

Shopify B2B in 2026: What Moved Down-Plan and What Still Needs Plus - SOLO MEDIA GROUP

TL;DR

  • B2B is no longer Plus-only. Since April 2, 2026, merchants on Basic, Grow and Advanced can sell wholesale with native Shopify B2B, “at no additional cost.”
  • What moved down-plan: company profiles, up to 3 B2B catalogs, quantity rules and price breaks, net payment terms, vaulted cards, ACH (US), PO numbers, quick order lists and the free Trade theme.
  • What still needs Plus: unlimited catalogs, catalogs assigned directly to one company, deposits, partial payments and payment requests per fulfillment.
  • Advanced adds one more: contextual checkout and storefront through Shopify Markets, which Basic and Grow don't get.
  • The upgrade trigger is pricing, not features. If you need more than 3 price lists or customer-specific pricing, you need Plus. Plus starts at $2,300/month (3-year term) versus $399/month for Advanced (billed monthly).

Feature availability verified October 12, 2026 against Shopify’s Help Center, Changelog and newsroom.

What changed for Shopify B2B in 2026?

On April 2, 2026, Shopify opened its native B2B features to Basic, Grow and Advanced plans. Before that, B2B on Shopify meant Shopify Plus or third-party wholesale apps.

Shopify's changelog says merchants on these plans “can start selling wholesale” with “up to 3 active B2B catalogs (assigned via Markets), company profiles, payment terms, volume pricing, ACH payments (U.S. only), and vaulted credit cards.” It adds: “These features are available to use at no additional cost.”

Shopify's VP of Product, Samir Pradhan, framed the change this way: “If B2B and DTC are part of the same business, the software should work that way too.”

What still needs Shopify Plus for B2B?

Five things: unlimited catalogs, direct catalog assignment, deposits, partial payments and payment requests per fulfillment. Shopify's changelog says unlimited catalogs, direct catalog assignment, “partial payments, and deposits remain exclusive to Plus.”

What each one means in practice:

Plus-only feature What it lets you do Who needs it
Unlimited catalogs More than 3 price lists Brands with many pricing tiers, regions or buyer groups
Direct company catalogs One price list for one specific buyer or location Negotiated, account-specific pricing
Deposit requirements Require a deposit on companies or draft orders Made-to-order, large or seasonal pre-book orders
Partial payments Let buyers pay part now, part later Big-ticket orders paid in stages
Payment requests per fulfillment Bill each shipment as it goes out Split shipments and backorders

The one that matters most is catalogs. Shopify notes that “direct catalog assignment isn't available on the Basic, Grow, or Advanced plans.” On those plans, catalogs are assigned through B2B markets, so every buyer in a market sees the same prices.

Is 3 B2B catalogs enough?

For many brands starting wholesale, yes. The limit is 3 active catalogs across all B2B markets, not 3 per market. Shopify notes you “need to remove or draft an existing assignment before you can add catalogs to another market.”

A typical setup that fits in 3:

Catalog Example use
1. Standard wholesale Independent retailers, list price minus your wholesale discount
2. Distributor Deeper discount for distributors or volume buyers
3. International or key accounts A separate market, or your top tier of accounts

When 3 stops working:

  • You negotiate prices account by account.
  • You sell in several countries, each with its own wholesale price list.
  • You need separate price lists for retail chains, independents, distributors and online resellers.

At that point, you're either merging buyers into fewer price lists, which leaks margin, or moving to Plus.

When does upgrading to Shopify Plus for B2B pay off?

When the cost of working around the limits is higher than the price difference. Plus starts at $2,300/month on a 3-year term, or $2,500/month on a 1-year term. Advanced is $399/month billed monthly, or $299/month billed yearly. That's a difference of roughly $1,900 to $2,000 a month.

Upgrade signals:

Signal Why it points to Plus
You need a 4th price list Basic, Grow and Advanced cap at 3
Buyers expect their own negotiated pricing Only Plus assigns a catalog to one company
You take deposits or bill in stages Deposits and partial payments are Plus-only
You ship orders in parts and bill per shipment Payment requests per fulfillment are Plus-only
You run wholesale apps to fake any of the above You're paying for apps and staff time to replace Plus features

Stay on Advanced when: you have 3 or fewer price tiers, buyers pay by card or net terms, and orders ship complete.

What are the common Shopify B2B myths in 2026?

Many guides are out of date. Here's what Shopify's own documentation says:

Myth Fact
“Shopify B2B is Plus-only.” Not since April 2, 2026. Basic, Grow and Advanced include it.
“You need Plus for PO numbers.” PO numbers are on all plans from Basic up.
“You need an app for quantity rules or volume pricing.” Quantity rules and quantity price breaks are native on all plans.
“Net terms need a third-party app.” Net terms and payment reminders are native on all plans.
“You need a wholesale theme.” The free Trade theme and the quick order list are on all plans.
“The Wholesale channel is the way to do B2B on Plus.” The legacy Plus Wholesale channel was replaced by B2B on Shopify. Agency First Pier dates its deprecation to April 30, 2024, though we could not confirm that date in Shopify's own documentation.

What results does Shopify report from B2B?

Shopify reports that B2B adopters see “up to a 33% increase in self-serve orders within six months and up to a 20% increase in reorder frequency.” It also says merchants using Shopify B2B see up to a 4.1x increase in reorder frequency compared with DTC orders.

Read these as best cases. They are Shopify's own figures, all framed as “up to,” not averages. Shopify's materials also disagree with each other on the reorder multiple: the newsroom announcement says 4.1x, while Shopify's enterprise blog gives 3.2x for the same comparison. The bigger practical win is usually self-serve ordering — buyers who used to email or phone orders can reorder from their account any time.

Can you run B2B and DTC in the same Shopify store?

Yes. Shopify says you can “use one store for both B2B and direct-to-consumer (D2C) sales, or create a separate B2B-only store.” Logged-in company buyers see their catalog, pricing and payment terms. Everyone else sees your DTC store.

One store works when: products overlap, your team is small, and you want one inventory and one set of reports.

A separate B2B store works when: the wholesale catalog, branding or checkout is very different, or wholesale has its own team.

If you're still deciding how your store should handle both, read CPG vs DTC: what the difference means for how you build the store.

How do you set up Shopify B2B on a non-Plus plan?

  1. Move to the new Shopify Markets if you haven't. Non-Plus B2B catalogs need it.
  2. Create companies and company locations for each wholesale buyer, with their contacts.
  3. Build up to 3 catalogs with your wholesale pricing.
  4. Assign catalogs through B2B markets. On non-Plus plans, this is how buyers get their prices.
  5. Set quantity rules and price breaks for case packs and volume tiers.
  6. Set payment terms per company, such as Net 30, and turn on payment reminders.
  7. Add the quick order list or switch your B2B experience to the Trade theme.
  8. Invite buyers to log in, and test a full order: catalog price, quantity rule, PO number and payment terms.

If buyers need to apply before seeing prices, set up gated wholesale access so only approved accounts see the B2B catalog.

What about ERPs, EDI and warehouses?

Native B2B handles the storefront and checkout. Most wholesale operations also need the back office connected:

  • ERP: order, inventory and customer sync for brands running NetSuite, Dynamics or similar. See our Shopify ERP integration services.
  • EDI: retailers like Walmart, Target, UNFI and KeHE order through EDI, not your B2B portal. See EDI for Shopify.
  • Warehouse: wholesale orders ship in case packs and pallets, so your WMS has to handle them. See how to connect a WMS to Shopify.
