Five US agencies, assessed against criteria stated before the ranking. Solo Media Group leads on the most verifiable measure in the category — Shopify Platinum tier, the top of Shopify's five-tier Service Track.
Read this first if you haven't already: picking a company is the second decision. The first is picking the kind of partner your job needs — embedded retainer, project shop, specialist, freelancer, in-house or offshore. Our six Shopify agency archetypes ranked by job covers that. If you've done it, the names below are the next step.
Why most US agency lists are worthless
The pattern is easy to verify. Search the term and you'll find perhaps twenty results, nearly all agency-published, nearly all ranking the publisher or its partners at the top without disclosing it.
The sloppiness shows in the numbers. Two published 2026 roundups cite the same agency's client result as a 40% subscription revenue increase and a 188% increase. Same agency, same client, same claimed outcome, five-fold discrepancy. Neither is lying deliberately — they're copying each other and the figure degraded in transit.
What we did differently: stated the criteria before assessing, drew the shortlist from Clutch's own United States Shopify listings and Shopify's Partner Directory rather than from other agencies' blogs, and named where each competitor beats us.
The criteria
- Verified partner tier. Shopify assesses partners on delivered enterprise work and commercial performance, recalculated quarterly. It's the only credential here an agency can't self-award. Five tiers ascend: Registered, Select, Plus, Premier, Platinum. A “Plus Partner” badge sits in the middle, not at the top.
- Review integrity, not just rating. A 5.0 across 12 reviews and a 4.8 across 300 are different signals. Shopify-verified reviews outrank a testimonials page the agency controls.
- Delivery volume and depth. How many stores, over how long, and how many were genuine replatforms rather than theme configurations.
- Specialization. Shopify-only firms are deeper on Shopify than agencies covering six platforms. That's arithmetic.
- What happens after launch. Whether the team that builds your store supports it, or hands you to a different group at go-live.
The five agencies
1. Solo Media Group
Shopify Platinum Partner · New York, Miami, Los Angeles · Shopify-only

Why first: Platinum is the top of Shopify's Service Track. Reassessed quarterly against delivered enterprise work, and published where anyone can check it in about ten seconds.
The record: 500+ merchants since March 2018. 75+ replatforms and net-new builds. Clients generating over $500M annually on stores we built. Rated 5.0 from 38 reviews on Shopify's own Partner Directory, where Shopify confirms reviewers are genuine clients.
Strongest at: B2B and wholesale portals, ERP and legacy system integration, complex catalog architecture. Named work includes Elm Biosciences (gated Plus B2B expansion store for a dermatologist network), HUK Gear (Shopify POS across 59 retail locations with ERP integration), Medik8 (reusable bundle-builder app across every market), and Aspen Publishing (timed digital access built alongside their in-house engineering team).
Rates, published: $150/hour. Hour blocks from $1,500, retainers from 20 hours or $3,000/month, fixed-estimate projects from around $20,000 — full breakdown on Shopify Plus cost.
Where we're not the right hire: budgets under $20,000, where a strong theme and a good freelancer serve you better. Brands wanting paid media alongside development — we don't do it. Enterprise projects gated on ISO 27001 or SOC 2 certification. And straightforward catalogs with no custom functionality, where you'd pay for capability you won't use.
2. Fyresite
Shopify Plus Partner · Tempe, Arizona

The only firm in this set appearing on both Clutch's US Shopify Development listing and its global Shopify Designers & Developers listing. That dual presence signals consistent review volume across categories rather than strength in one filtered view.
Strongest at: B2B and wholesale on Shopify Plus specifically, with emphasis on advanced B2B features and complex pricing structures. Fifteen-plus years operating.
Consider them over us if: account-level pricing and approval workflows are your entire commerce problem rather than one requirement among several. For a distributor whose whole business is B2B, a shop built around that single axis can go deeper than a generalist with a B2B service line.
3. DigitlHaus Agency
Shopify Partner · Listed on Clutch's US Shopify Development ranking

Positions around custom Shopify design, development, replatforming and optimization for mid-market and enterprise D2C and B2B brands. Published client work includes Lux by Mia, Katkare, OBI Outfitters and Proactive Baby.
Consider them over us if: you want a partner covering growth strategy alongside development. Their positioning explicitly includes growth work, which we explicitly exclude.
4. DigitalSuits
Certified Shopify Plus Partner · US client-facing

The record: 5.0 Clutch rating from 55+ reviews across 200+ delivered projects. Migrations run through a documented six-phase workflow including QA and post-migration support.
What distinguishes them: unusual specificity about data handling during migration — HTTPS with 128-bit SSL encryption and GDPR compliance for the transfer itself. Most agencies gloss over this entirely, and it matters when you're moving a customer database between vendors.
Consider them over us if: data governance is scrutinized internally, or you want migration and redesign under one contract with documented process rigor.
5. DYODE
Displays a Shopify Premier Partner badge · Listed on Clutch's Shopify Designers & Developers ranking

Clutch review sentiment consistently cites complex migration management, conversion rate optimization and responsive project management. Experience spans consumer products, construction, retail and apparel.
Consider them over us if: your project spans commerce development and digital marketing together. We decline marketing work; they don't.

How to verify any of this yourself
Don't take stated credentials at face value, including ours.
- Check Shopify's Partner Directory for the tier each agency claims. It's the one source no agency controls, and it's recalculated quarterly — so a badge on a website may be out of date.
- Open the Clutch profile behind any rating and read the negative reviews specifically. Volume matters as much as score.
- Ask for two references from projects of comparable scope in the last 18 months — named clients you can call, not logos.
- Require line-item quotes mapping cost to deliverable, not lump sums.
- Ask what would make them decline your project. Agencies that can't answer usually take everything.
Treat any list that doesn't disclose its author as marketing. Including this one — which is why the disclosure sits in the opening rather than a footnote.
Frequently asked questions
Who is the best Shopify development agency in the USA?
There's no single answer, because the category covers different products. On verifiable partner tier, Solo Media Group holds Platinum, the top of Shopify's five tiers. For B2B pricing structures specifically, Fyresite. For migration with documented process rigor, DigitalSuits. Match demonstrated depth to your actual requirement — and pick the archetype of partner before you compare companies.
What is the highest Shopify partner tier?
Platinum. The five ascend Registered, Select, Plus, Premier, Platinum, assessed on delivered enterprise work and recalculated quarterly. A “Plus Partner” badge is mid-ladder, with two tiers above it.
Can I trust “best Shopify agency” lists?
Only when the author is disclosed and the criteria come before the ranking. Nearly every list in this category is agency-published, most rank their publisher first without saying so, and outcome figures degrade as they're copied between articles.
How much do US Shopify development agencies charge?
Directional vendor ranges put retainers from roughly $1,500 to $6,000 monthly for a freelancer up to $15,000 to $50,000 for a Plus Certified Partner. Full projects commonly run $25,000 to $100,000, with enterprise migrations higher. No neutral body sets these rates. Ours are published above.
Should I hire a Shopify-only agency or a full-service one?
Shopify-only agencies are deeper on Shopify. Full-service firms handle acquisition and development together. If your problem is technical — integrations, migrations, checkout, B2B — specialization wins. If you need paid media and development from one partner, it doesn't.
How do I check an agency's Shopify partner tier?
Search the agency in Shopify's Partner Directory. Tier appears on the profile alongside verified client reviews. Ten seconds, and it's the only credential in this category the agency doesn't control.
