We are a Shopify Platinum Partner and we migrate stores off Wix onto Shopify. The part most guides skip: Wix has no export path for several things you need. Customer accounts cannot be exported from the Wix admin at all, order history needs API extraction, and blog posts and static pages have no export function.

What is Wix to Shopify migration?
Wix to Shopify migration is the process of moving a store’s products, customers, orders, content and domain from Wix onto Shopify, then rebuilding the storefront because Wix themes and Wix custom code cannot transfer. It splits into four workstreams: data extraction, URL redirect mapping, feature rebuild, and domain cutover.
The data extraction is the part Wix makes difficult, and it is why Wix migrations take longer than people expect. Wix is a website builder that added ecommerce. It renders client-side, it stores product data in a structure that does not match Shopify’s import template, and it provides no admin export at all for several record types.
Your Wix store stays live throughout. We build and test on a Shopify development domain, verify everything, then switch the domain. Nothing goes offline.
What Wix will and won’t let you export
This is the section that changes project scope, and it is why a Wix migration is not the simple job the platform’s simplicity suggests.
| Data | Wix export path | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| Products and variants | Partial CSV, subset of fields | Fill gaps via Wix Stores REST API |
| Product images | Not in the CSV | Extracted separately, re-uploaded to Shopify |
| Customer accounts | None from the admin UI | Wix Members API extraction |
| Order history | None from the admin UI | Velo or API extraction |
| Blog posts | No export function | Extracted from rendered pages |
| Static pages | No export function | Extracted from rendered pages |
| Digital download files | Manual only | Collected file by file |
| SEO titles and descriptions | Held per page in Wix | Exported and re-mapped to Shopify SEO fields |
| Customer passwords | Never, on any platform | Shopify activation emails at launch |
Three rows in that table have no export path at all. Any migration quote that has not accounted for them is going to change.
Wix URLs and the redirect map
Wix uses its own URL patterns and Shopify enforces fixed prefixes, so effectively every indexed URL changes. Redirects go live at cutover, not after.
| Wix | Shopify |
|---|---|
| /product-page/handle | /products/handle |
| /page-name | /pages/handle |
| /post/slug | /blogs/news/slug |
| /blog/category/name | /blogs/news with tag filter |
| /members, /cart, /checkout | Shopify equivalents, no redirect needed |
Two Wix specifics worth knowing. Wix renders client-side, which makes a standard crawl less reliable, so the URL inventory is built from a crawl plus Search Console plus your backlink profile rather than from a crawl alone. And Wix CDN image URLs cannot be redirected, though the images themselves are preserved once re-uploaded.
We build the map from three sources combined, sign it off with you before design starts, and import it before DNS changes.
How to transfer your Wix domain to Shopify
Two routes, and the faster one is not the one most people assume.
| Transfer the registrar | Point the DNS | |
|---|---|---|
| Time | 5 to 7 business days | Hours |
| What you do | Unlock in Wix, get the EPP auth code, transfer | Update A record and CNAME to Shopify |
| Who manages DNS after | Shopify | Wix |
| Best when | You want everything in one place | You want to launch this week |
If your domain is registered somewhere else already, such as GoDaddy, Namecheap or Cloudflare, neither applies. You just point the A record and CNAME at Shopify.
DNS propagation takes 24 to 48 hours, during which some visitors may still reach the Wix site. Shopify provisions a free SSL certificate automatically once the domain connects, which can take up to 48 hours. We verify the padlock before announcing anything.
What’s included
Data extraction around Wix’s limits
Products, variants and images via CSV plus the Wix Stores REST API. Customers via the Wix Members API. Orders via Velo or API extraction. The three record types with no admin export are the reason this is engineering rather than configuration.
Redirect mapping before design
Built from a crawl, Search Console data and your backlink profile, signed off by you, imported before DNS cutover. Not a launch-week task.
Theme rebuild
Wix designs cannot port. We rebuild on editable, well-structured Shopify themes your team can update without filing a dev ticket. Learn more about Shopify Plus development.
Velo code rebuild
Wix Velo does not transfer. Simple logic such as discount and shipping rules moves to Shopify Functions. Complex logic such as API integrations and dynamic pages becomes a custom app. See Shopify app development.
Wix Bookings and Members Area
Neither has a direct Shopify equivalent. Bookings needs an app or a separate system, and Members Area content needs rethinking. Scoped before we quote, not discovered later.
Blog and page content
Extracted from rendered pages because Wix provides no export, then rebuilt with metadata and a redirect each.
Wix Multilingual
Maps to Shopify Markets for currency and language, or to expansion storefronts if you are on Plus and the structure justifies it. Shopify Plus vs Shopify.
Apps and integrations
Email, reviews, chat, analytics and any custom scripts embedded in Wix, each mapped to a Shopify app, rebuilt, or retired.
Wix to Shopify migration steps
Four to eight weeks for a typical Wix store. Longer with Bookings, Members Area or significant Velo code.
Audit
Crawl the live site, export Search Console and backlink data, count products, blog posts, static pages and installed integrations. Identify every Velo script.
URL mapping
Every URL with traffic or backlinks mapped to a Shopify destination and signed off. Before design.
Data extraction
Products via CSV and API, customers via Members API, orders via Velo or API. Verified against source counts.
Design and build
Theme rebuilt on a Shopify development store. Wix stays live and trading.
Feature rebuild
Velo logic, Bookings, forms, apps. Budget for this properly; it is typically the longest track.
Content extraction
Blog posts and pages pulled from rendered pages, with metadata.
QA
Cross-device, cross-browser, checkout, every integration. Freeze new Wix product additions 48 hours before cutover to prevent drift.
Cutover and verification
Redirects imported, DNS switched in your lowest-traffic window, sitemap submitted, activation emails sent. Redirect sample, record counts and metadata checks run in the first 48 hours, with daily Search Console checks through the first fortnight.
Our free 100-point migration checklist covers the full sequence across all source platforms, including the nine steps that become irreversible after cutover.
How to verify the migration succeeded
Almost nobody publishes this, and it is the part that tells you whether the money was well spent. Run these in the first 48 hours.
| Check | Pass condition |
|---|---|
| Redirect sample | Request 20 old Wix URLs. All return 301 to the right page, not 404, not the homepage |
| Product count | Shopify count matches the Wix count you recorded in phase 1 |
| Order count | Matches source, including refunds and fulfilment status |
| Customer count | Matches, with marketing consent state intact |
| Metadata | Spot-check 20 products for title tag and meta description |
| Indexation | Sitemap submitted, no staging noindex, coverage clean in Search Console |
| Canonicals | Self-referencing on products and collections |
| Test order | One real order end to end, through every payment method |
| Activation email | Received, and the reset link works |
| SSL | Padlock present on the custom domain |
If the redirect sample or the record counts fail, stop and fix before promoting the new store. A migration SEO audit diagnoses the cause within 48 hours if traffic has already moved.
What it costs
Most Solo Media Group design-and-build projects start at around $20,000, quoted as a line-item estimate so you can see what each piece costs and cut scope before signing. Retainers start at 20-hour engagements or $3,000 per month, and our rate is $150 per hour.
| Factor | Effect on cost |
|---|---|
| Blog posts and static pages | No Wix export, so each is extraction work |
| Velo scripts | Rebuilt as Functions or a custom app |
| Wix Bookings or Members Area | No direct equivalent, needs replacing |
| Product count and option depth | Shopify allows 3 options per product |
| Integrations to rebuild | Each scoped separately |
| Design scope | Full brand-led design vs. building from your Figma files |
Billing runs against milestones with net 15 invoicing, agreed in the statement of work before work begins.
Being straight about the range. Published figures put DIY Wix migrations under $500 and freelance or small-agency rebuilds around $3,000 to $8,000. If your store has under 100 products, no Velo, no Bookings and low organic traffic, one of those is the right answer and we will say so on the call. Our floor exists because the projects we take on involve extraction work, feature rebuilds and traffic worth protecting. Full breakdown: Shopify Plus cost.
Who we’re not the right fit for
We would rather say this now than three weeks into a project.
- Budgets under $20,000. A simple Wix store with under 100 products and no custom code can move with Shopify’s own import tools and a good freelancer. We will point you there.
- Stores with no organic traffic to protect. Most of our value on a migration is the redirect map. If nothing is ranking, you are paying for insurance you do not need.
- Anyone who needs to launch in two weeks. Wix extraction work cannot be compressed. Any agency agreeing to it is skipping the mapping you will pay for later.
- Data-only handoffs. We do not run import-and-leave engagements. Without an owner for redirects and post-launch monitoring, the migration looks fine for about a fortnight.
Frequently asked questions
What is Wix to Shopify migration?
Moving products, customers, orders, content and your domain from Wix to Shopify, then rebuilding the storefront because Wix themes and Velo code cannot transfer. Four workstreams: data extraction, redirect mapping, feature rebuild, domain cutover. Extraction is the hard part, because Wix has no admin export for customer accounts, order history, blog posts or static pages.
Can I transfer my Wix website to Shopify?
Yes, though not as a single export and import. Products export partially to CSV. Customers, orders, blog posts and pages have no Wix admin export and are extracted via the Wix Stores REST API, the Wix Members API, or from rendered pages. Your design is rebuilt rather than transferred.
How do I transfer my Wix domain to Shopify?
Two routes. Transfer the registrar by unlocking the domain in Wix, requesting an EPP auth code and transferring, which takes 5 to 7 business days. Or keep the domain at Wix and point the A record and CNAME at Shopify, which propagates in hours. The DNS route is faster and needs no transfer approval.
Is there a free Wix to Shopify migration?
Partly. Shopify’s own import tools handle product and customer CSVs at no cost, and a manual rebuild costs only your time. What you cannot get free is the extraction of records Wix does not export, or a redirect map, which is the part that protects your rankings.
What are the best Wix to Shopify migration apps and tools?
Shopify’s Store Importer for CSVs, plus Matrixify or LitExtension for larger catalogues. Screaming Frog for the URL inventory. No tool handles Wix’s missing exports, Velo rebuilds or the redirect map, which is where a migration either holds its rankings or does not.
How long does a Wix to Shopify migration take?
Four to eight weeks for a typical store. Under 100 products with no Velo, Bookings or Members Area can move faster. Velo rebuilds and content extraction are the two tracks that extend it.
Will I lose SEO traffic moving from Wix to Shopify?
Not if the redirect map is complete and live at cutover. Wix uses /product-page/ and /post/ patterns while Shopify enforces /products/ and /blogs/, so every indexed URL changes. Build the map from a crawl, Search Console and backlink data together.
Do my customers’ passwords transfer?
No. Passwords cannot be migrated from any platform. Shopify sends account activation invitations instead, and that email should be planned as part of launch rather than discovered on launch day.
Does Wix Velo code transfer to Shopify?
No. Velo must be rebuilt. Simple logic such as discount and shipping rules moves to Shopify Functions. Complex logic such as API integrations or dynamic pages becomes a custom Shopify app.
What happens to Wix Bookings and my Members Area?
Neither has a direct Shopify equivalent. Bookings needs a Shopify app or a separate system. Members Area content needs rethinking, usually as customer accounts plus gated content or a dedicated app. Both should be scoped before you commit.
Can I keep my Wix store running during the migration?
Yes, and you should. Wix stays live while we build and test on a Shopify development domain. The only cutover is the DNS switch. We freeze new Wix product additions 48 hours beforehand to prevent data drift.
Can I use Shopify with Wix instead of migrating?
Not properly. There is no supported way to run Shopify checkout behind a Wix front end, and embedding buy buttons in Wix gives you two systems to maintain and no unified inventory or customer records. If Wix is limiting you, migrating is the cleaner answer.
How do I verify the migration worked?
Within 48 hours: request 20 old Wix URLs and confirm they 301 correctly, match product, order and customer counts against your pre-migration figures, spot-check metadata on 20 products, confirm the sitemap is submitted with clean coverage, place a real test order, and check the SSL padlock on your custom domain.
What platforms do you migrate from?
Wix, Magento and Adobe Commerce, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Squarespace, OpenCart, WordPress and custom platforms. We confirm exact data scope during discovery.
